Beauty (filmstrips), Digital photographs, 2014
A photo series capturing the physical parts of the body that make an individual feel self-conscious. The exercise of exposing parts of oneself that make us feel vulnerable as an act of self-love and capturing the beauty of that physical attribute.

Face to Face, digital photographs, 2014
Capturing a series of photographs of folks staring straight into the lens, confronting the viewer. Each individual shared that they have mental health concerns, and this installation of images is to allow the viewer to see who is affected when most mental health is invisible.

Home, digital photographs mounted on 2x4, 2013
Fire crackles and hisses
Branches dance in the wind
Water collides against itself
As if the very molecules were at war with each other
Flames glow and cast shadows on the floor
The island stands firmly in picture window
Memories flash
The place where she knew love
The fire has settled into a smooth constant hiss
Rocking in the chair taking comfort in her memories
She finds peace
She feels beautiful
She is home.

Becoming, plaster and acrylic paint, 2019
Becoming is a cast of my torso at 39 weeks pregnant, just days before giving birth to my first child. This piece was created to start a conversation about how pregnancy is generally considered beautiful, but it comes with a rarely acknowledged dark side. In this new age of stricter laws being proposed and passed to create new barriers to a woman’s right to choose, being pregnant is something seemingly fully supported by society. Pregnancy is supposed to be natural and beautiful, but our society has morphed it into a political statement riddled with agitation from all sides. In the media, it is always shown to be easy, beautiful, no complications, and a rite of passage, because society truly is disgusted by basic bodily functions. As a young woman, I felt that society was telling me I was throwing away my career opportunities; that I would constantly be choosing between my child(ren) and making a career for myself. As someone who suffers from a chronic illness, pregnancy is often shown as a guilty choice; “If you can’t take care of yourself every day you shouldn’t have children.” I had to dig deep for information about the basics of recovering from childbirth, how to breastfeed, how to return to work, what a miscarriage (read: spontaneous abortion) feels and looks like, and many other basic pregnancy topics. Pregnancy can be beautiful, but we need to acknowledge that it can also be a brutal toll on the body and mind.

Balloon Classic Triptych, 120mm film, 2015
Every time I pick up a camera, regardless of format, I aim to follow where my heart wants to go
instead of what my eyes want to see. The practice of following my heart instead of my eyes free
the pressure but keeps the intention of creation and documentation. Growing up a mile south
of the National Balloon Classic field, hot air balloons were synonymous with the start of August
every year. I now travel to my childhood home most summers to experience the magic of a sky
full of balloons. It is special to get up close and personal with the beautiful envelopes, hearing
the roar of the burners, and the smell of propane filling the air. Allow yourself to travel to the
field where this balloon is taking off from to see progression of the balloon envelope inflating.
